When in Rome, Do As the Romans Do

Quando sei a Roma, fai come i Romani.

Last stop: Rome! I met Nadine for the last 3 days of my trip for a 28 degree meander through one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the world.

I often say that when traveling alone, things go more quickly because you don’t get to discuss. But we were pretty efficient in the ruins! Without rushing, we saw the Capitoline Hill, the Roman Forum, the Palatine, and the Colosseum on our first morning. It was great to finally see these things in, well, real life!

What was almost more interesting was the juxtaposition of the old and the new. Online and in books we see gorgeous photos of these monuments and ruins, but you don’t see what surrounds them! There were a few that were quite shocking (Trevi Fountain anyone?).

Once we got through the must-sees, we went to the want-to-sees. The Spanish Steps and the very glam Via Condotti, our favourite square, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, and Piazza di Spagna. We had a lot of gelato on benches, lattes in piazzas, and wandered in and out of the tiny, picturesque streets.

It was the perfect mix of history and relaxation.
