I finally got the chance to visit Abbey Road, the street and studio made famous by The Beatles. I went alone, so I didn’t get a silly picture in the cross walk. It was amusing to watch the tourists and families going back and forth across the street as locals slammed on their breaks. If I lived in the area I’d avoid that stretch of road!
When I decided to move to London, Asa was already gone. In high school he had sent me all his favourite Beatles songs, one by one over MSN Messenger. Years later, Mathew’s memorial slide show was put to “The Long and Winding Road.” One thing I saw in my pre-departure research was that the walls outside the recording studio were filled with notes, names and scribbles of people who had visited. I decided that was something I wanted to do for him.
It’s taken some time to make it happen, but today, the day after his 24th birthday, my Sharpie and I made our way to NW8. [Update: Just to clarify, this is about the size of my hand, not my torso!]
Happy Birthday Asa. I love and miss you.
